Day3
Observation on day 3 showed the biggest change in a 24 hour period. As many angelfish breeders know, day 3 is when the eggs become 'wrigglers'. This name comes from the development of the fry's tail. Since the fry does not yet have functional gills at this stage the tail acts as a large gill absorbing oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide. As a result an enormous amount of blood can be seen flowing through the new tail as shown below.

Day 2 - Tail: (Above) The tail has now developed and has a significant amount of blood flow. (Middle) Time-lapse video shows blood flowing through the tail. Click to play (Bottom) 60X magnification of blood flowing through the midsection of the tail. Click to play

Aside from the now developed tail, both the head and heart of the new fry have also developed considerably over the last 24 hours. The head now shows an obvious eye, crown and mouth, while the heart appears to have become more chambered.

Day 3 - Head and Heart: (Above) The head has developed considerably. The heart can be seen between the head and yolk sack. (Middle) A still frame of the heart mid-beat. (Bottom) The heart is now beating more rapidly and appears to have at least 2 compartments. Blood can also be seen traveling around the edge of the yolk sack. Click to play.
